Cuticular hydrocarbons for identifying Sarcophagidae (Diptera)

چکیده
Abstract The composition and quantity of insect cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) can be species-specific as well sexually dimorphic within species. CHC analysis has been previously used for identification ageing purposes several orders including true flies (Diptera). Here, we analysed the chemical profiles adult males females eleven species flesh belonging to genus Sarcophaga Meigen (Sarcophagidae), namely africa (Wiedemann), S. agnata Rondani, argyrostoma Robineau-Desvoidy, carnaria (Linnaeus), crassipalpis Macquart, melanura Meigen, pumila teretirostris Pandellé, subvicina Rohdendorf, vagans variegata (Scopoli). Cuticular extracted from pinned specimens collections Natural History Museum, London using a customised extraction technique were Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry. Time preservation prior ranged between few weeks over one hundred years. (1) allowed reliable large majority specimens, (2) differed same species, (3) reliably associated provided sufficient replicates (up 10) each sex analysed, (4) identified preserved up years extraction.

Drosophila Cuticular Hydrocarbons Revisited: Mating Status Alters Cuticular Profiles
Most living organisms use pheromones for inter-individual communication. In Drosophila melanogaster flies, several pheromones perceived either by contact/at a short distance (cuticular hydrocarbons, CHs), or at a longer distance (cis-vaccenyl acetate, cVA), affect courtship and mating behaviours. However, it has not previously been possible to precisely identify all potential pheromonal compoun...
متن کاملNew records of Sarcophagidae from Turkey (Diptera)
Faunistic records of 68 flesh fly species are presented, and altogether, 22 species are recorded from Turkey for the first time. A further 46 species were recorded for the first time in at least one Turkish province. This paper presents the first locality data for four additional species, which were previously mentioned only generically in catalogues. One new synonym has been established, Serva...
متن کاملAdaptive dynamics of cuticular hydrocarbons in Drosophila.
Cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) are hydrophobic compounds deposited on the arthropod cuticle that are of functional significance with respect to stress tolerance, social interactions and mating dynamics. We characterized CHC profiles in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster at five levels: across a latitudinal transect in the eastern United States, as a function of developmental temperat...
متن کاملPhylogenetic inference of calyptrates, with the first mitogenomes for Gasterophilinae (Diptera: Oestridae) and Paramacronychiinae (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).
The complete mitogenome of the horse stomach bot fly Gasterophilus pecorum (Fabricius) and a near-complete mitogenome of Wohlfahrt's wound myiasis fly Wohlfahrtia magnifica (Schiner) were sequenced. The mitogenomes contain the typical 37 mitogenes found in metazoans, organized in the same order and orientation as in other cyclorrhaphan Diptera. Phylogenetic analyses of mitogenomes from 38 calyp...
